Recruitment for Bank PO, Clerk and SO
Every year thousands of vacancies are being generated in the public sector banks in India. With the government’s push to make banking accessible to the remotest corner of the nation, this trend is going to continue for decades to come as we have one of the lowest penetrations of banking services in the world. This, in turn, leads to the generation of plethora of new vacancies every year. Moreover, the recruitment, in the banking sector, is also done to compensate for people retiring every year.
There are mainly three posts for which banks recruit candidates: Clerk, Probationary Officer (PO) and Specialist officer (SO). Among the three posts, clerk has the lowest starting salary whereas SO has the highest starting salary. To select the right candidate for these roles, entrance exam is conducted by the banks. SBI and RBI conduct their own exam while for all the other nationalized banks IBPS conducts the exam.
For the post of Clerk, there are two stages through which a candidate has to pass to finally get a job in public sector banks. The first stage is Online Prelims Exam, and the last stage is Online Mains Exam. Prelims exam is just qualifying in nature i.e. the marks of prelims are not added to decide the final merit list. Only the marks of Mains exam are considered to shortlist candidates for the job.
For the post of PO and SO, there are three stages through which a candidate has to cruise. The first stage is Prelims, the second stage is Mains and the last stage is Interview. Prelims is just qualifying in nature i.e. the marks of prelims are not added to decide the final merit list. Only the marks of Mains and Interview are considered for merit list with 80% and 20% weightage respectively.
There are various posts of SO for which the recruitment is done. The posts are as follows:
